Is your website as good as you think?
Have you recently purchased a website? Maybe you're interested in a website to help your business grow and prosper? But how good are our so called "Web Developers" these days? Here at Revo Studios, we've done an analysis of a wide selection of web developers around Australia, to help you make an informed decision on why choosing Revo Studios to develop your website will be beneficial to your business.
So you know what a website does, but did you know that there are certain industry standards regarding the process in which a website is developed? You may be asking "What do you mean by industry standards?" For example: When you sit down at a restaurant you normally expect to be provided with clean plates and cutlery, and when you check out at a supermarket, the cashier to provide you with the correct amount of change.
The same methods apply for web development. Just as you would expect the cashier attendant to provide you with the correct amount of change, and you would expect a restaurant to provide you with clean plates, so you should expect that your web developer provides you with a website that meets industry standards.
Who sets these standards? you ask. A group known as the World Wide Web Consortium work together to develop our currently used Web standards. The idea behind this organisation is, and to quote their mission statement:
To lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web.
What you, as a consumer need to be aware of, is that working with a web development company that does not follow these guidelines and standards, to put into hindsight would be the equivalent of your cashier attendant giving you 1 cent pieces for change. Yes, old and out dated currency, just like many web developers these days are using old and outdated coding standards and guidelines.
You may be asking: If there are set guidelines and industry standards why are they not being followed by web developers? The simple answer to this is that your average web developer is uneducated in regards to web development standards.
W3C produces what are known as "Recommendations". These are specifications, developed by W3C working groups, and then reviewed by Members of the Consortium. A W3C Recommendation indicates that consensus has been reached among the Consortium Members that a specification is appropriate for widespread use.
Feel free to view the recommendations for yourself.
At Revo Studios, we pride ourself on providing our clients with the latest in web development standards and guarantee a professional service that is rarely offered elsewhere.
So we've established, what and why. Now let's look into Who. We've put together a web developer analysis, matching our services, in reference to the World Wide Web Consortium standards, to other web developers. Let's see what we find!
